Half-life 2 Review
Absolutely awesome, a 10/10 game all the way.
I have completed this game on the Xbox and I have to say, it is twice the 1 player first person shooter halo 2 is, In length as well as game play.
The only flaw I found in this game is the slowdown at the start and end of the game, this is when the game jitters around during game play. You can live with it, but it is still quite annoying. I am sure that it is not a problem on the computer game version. And also, I found it a bit wired how you cant see your hands on the guns, but I suppose it would only shorten your field of view.
The story line is very weird and complex involving an incredibly hard scientist named Gordon freeman (you), other than that, I seriously don’t have a clue having never played on Half-life 1. There is something about a parallel dimension of creatures seeping into our dimension because of a teleporter mistake (god knows). It really doesn’t matter, the game play is so good that you won’t care in the slightest.
The graphics are crisp on the guns and pretty much the best you can expect of a this generation console on the surroundings. You can tell that it was originally a computer game from the realism.
You face a diverse range of enemies and have the guns to suit, from your crowbar, to you Grav-gun (love it!! Just wait till it goes uber, you’ll know when you see it!!), to your guided rocket launcher. What really clinched it for me is the green bugs that originally made me cringe when they come flying towards you, turn into your allies when you obtain the food pods, you can then make them do your bidding for you. How’s that for a weapon??
Its nice to find a game where you actually need to be smart, work out ways to get forward, Halo 2 is just literally walking in a straight line, everything is laid out in front of you and you just kill your way to victory.
A classic example of Half-life 2 would be this:
You have just emptied out a building, you might be running low on ammo so you hunt around a bit to find some, you put your health and shield to the max from the units on the wall. The door you think you need to go though is jammed so you walk in the gap that is classically beside it until you can see the other side of the door though a window, it will probably have a bar across it to stop you from opening it. You grab the Grav-gun and lift the bar off of the door to make it accessible to you.
The controlls are nice and easy to use, although, it can be slow to cycle though all of your weopons since you can carry all the ones you find. I stand by my theory that any first person shooter that you can jump in is worth the money.
One more thing, you can shoot objects such as disks and hooks that you find on the flaw with your Grav-gun (great feature). It took me a while to figure this out so i thought it is worth mentioning.
As I said, twice the game Halo 2 is, its just a shame that it is not multipalyer or online, it would have been amazing.
Awesome game, don’t let anything get in your way of buying it.
