Pikmin Game Review

Pikmin Game Review

This game is definitely a must buy for the Nintendo Game Cube, it did however only take me a day to complete (pretty much solid play). You might find it is worth renting more than buying unless you may want to complete it more than once.

The first thing I noticed when playing this game is how unique the game play is, I found that there is no better feeling than having an army of up to a hundred little creatures following you around, doing your bidding for you, it is actually really funny to watch.

The diversity of Pikmin is also a great feacher of this game, their isn't just one type of pikmin but three. Each type has its own ability, the blue one can survive in water, the yellow can carry explosive rocks and can be thrown the highest and the red can survive fire as well as being strong. I found it quite easy to select the type I wanted because they automatically separate into individual groups when deselected.

The controls are nice and simple, pretty typical of a third person game. You can control how they move around you using the C stick which I found gave me the control I needed, other buttons such as the A button allows you to throw the pikmin and pull then out of the ground, the rest of the buttons allow you to deselect the Pikmin and summon them. It is all very nice and easy to remember giving you complete control over your pikmin friends.

The story line is simple, his ship crashes and he has to retrieve all of the parts in order to survive, I found that what really keeps you gripped into the storyline is the way you can see your ship gradually being built as you retrieve the parts. The little man has lost 30 parts of his ship and you have 30 days to find the parts I found this storyline adequate to keep you interested in the game until the end.

Graphically, this game is awesome considering that it is a current generation console, everyone seems to underestimate the graphical power of the Nintendo Game Cube, probably because it has a less powerful graphics card than the Xbox, this is yet another game from Nintendo that shows it is not the graphics card that counts, its how carefully the game is engineered.

I will give you the fact that it looks a lot like another kids game, but let me assure you, its probably one of the best games I have ever played (I am 17).

Cheat Codes Chump rating = 9/10

I am giving it a 9 because it can get just a little bit repetitive and I kept on accidentally drowning my Pikmin which got on my nerves. And also I am not particularly a fan of the time limit (30 days) I managed to complete it on the 24th pikmin day.
