Transformers Game Review
DO NOT let the name trick you into thinking that this game is just for kids, I think it is the Playstation 2 third person version of Halo 2 only less glitchy and more fun, you can transforms into your car form and back at will and the maps are completely free roaming.
The Decepticons and their army of Decepticlones have taken over and the only way for the Autobots to stand a chance against the enemy’s forces is to capture an ancient race of miniature transformers known as the Minicons.
You, playing as one of the three Autobots, have to scour the globe in order to collect the minicons before your enemies do. Each one you collect will give your autopen another capability until you are powerful enough to take on the bosses and eventually Megatron.
The Minicons can prove quite difficult to acquire as for some of the more powerful ones you will have to battle your way though rough terrenes and many, many enemies.
The graphics are absolutely amazing, of course, there is no such thing as bad graphics on a character that is a polygon anyway, but still, altogether, it forms a very pleasing visual affect.
The AI is easily the best I have ever seen, your enemies travel around in tight units, the command unit at the back followed by the medium units with shields at the front, which protect their commander. If you take out the command unit with your sniper rifle minicon then one of two things will happen:
1.) The rest of the unit will scatter and take cover, or if you are in sight, start shooting you.
2.) Join the nearest unit with a commander that is still intact.
If you stick a robot with a watchdog mine (transformers version of plasma grenades), they will panic and run around trying to shake it off.
You have 3 Autobots to choose from, each with a unique feature:
Optimus Prime: Very slow, has the slowest moving car but the most power, medium armour.
Red Alert: Quite a fast car but hard to control, has medium power and the best armour.
Hot Short: Very fast car, lowest power and the worst armour. This is my preferred character, so much fun to be, so much faster than the rest.
You can have a total of 4 minicons on your autobot at any given time. Each minicon takes up a certain amount of power, therefore, you can use the most powerful combinations on the autobot with the highest power limit (Optimus prime). The minicons are also grouped by colour, the more minicons of the same colour you use, the more powerful you will be. My favourite minicons were the Watchdog mine and the glider along with a shield and the dash minicon.
Your transformer will have a small minicon companion from the end of the first level onwards. This minicon will follow you around and allow you to power-link with it and make you go into bullet time, as well as help you kill your enemies.
WARNING: Whilst you are power linked with your minicon it will drain your energon (life).
Cheat Codes Chump rating = 10/10 (easily).
My only criticism of this game is that it is only one player.
